CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Sussex County Sheriff's Office hires employees based on the results of an open competitive law enforcement entry level examination given by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission. An entry level test was held by Commission in June 2008 with the results posted in December 2008. The names on the list will remain active for 2 years. In the event Sussex County has a vacancy the Commission will certify a list of names based on the scores and gives preference to Sussex County residents in order of veteran and non-veteran status. Benefits: Each full time sworn member will receive full benefits in accordance with the present contract which includes a choice of one of several health plans, a prescription medication plan, dental insurance and group life insurance as part of the Police and Fire Retirement System.
Holiday and Leave: Each new full time sworn member will receive 15 paid sick leave days, 12 paid vacation days and 3 paid personal days.
Training: A condition of employment is the completion of a basic police training program approved by the Police Training Commission.
