SUSSEX COUNTY SHERIFF ’S OFFICE  &  NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL’S

 6 HOUR DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE  

Introduction:

The mission of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office and the National Safety Council is to educate and influence society to adopt safety, health and environmental policies, practices and procedures that prevent and mitigate human suffering and economic losses arising from preventable causes.  

Course Overview:

The goal of this course is to provide drivers with the knowledge and the safe driving techniques to prevent collisions and violations.  The course focuses on collision prevention through hazard recognition and application of collision-avoidance techniques.  In addition, the course addresses common driving habits to eliminate moving violations.  

Throughout the course, participants learn how to recognize both potential and immediate hazards, how to avoid collisions in a variety of driving conditions and how to choose safe and legal driving behaviors.  The emphasis is on identifying and choosing safe and legal behind-the-wheel behaviors and actions.  

The course addresses these defensive driving topics:

Personal responsibility and driving                     Defensive Driving

Preventable collisions                                           Hazard recognition

Impaired driving (Alcohol / Drugs)                       Aggressive driving

Driving environment                                              Avoiding collisions

6 Most common driving errors                             Choosing safe & legal behaviors

 Why YOU should take this course:

Participants attend this course for a number of reasons.  Some, because they have made a decision to do their part to reduce and prevent traffic collisions and violations and reduce fatalities, injuries and the cost to society.  

Secondly, after you have successfully completed this course, you will receive a state-mandated insurance discount of 5% off of your yearly insurance for the next 3 years!

If you have violation points on you New Jersey Driving record, this course will allow you to have a 2 Point Reduction in you total points!  

The Insurance discount and the Point Reduction apply to New Jersey Drivers Only.  This course is not recognized by Insurance carriers of New York & Pennsylvania .
